Kenyans Dominate New York Marathon
Kenyan Athletes yet again proved their supremacy at the New York marathon this weekend with victories in both men's and women's races. Olympic champion, Peres Jepchirchir became the first to win an Olympic gold medal and New York City marathon the same year. Compatriot Viola Cheptoo who was making her marathon debut put up a tight battle but fell short of clinching victory coming in second. Jepchirchir finished the race in 2:22:39 seconds, Cheptoo in 2:22:44 while Ababel Yeshaneh of Ethiopia was third in 2:22:52.
In the Men’s races, Albert Korir won the race finishing in a splendid 2:8:22 seconds. Korir who came in second in the 2019 New York marathon behind Geoffrey Kamwaror bagged his fourth world major marathon after his weekend win.
Moroccan Mohamed El Araby came in second in 2:09:06 seconds while Italian Eyob Faniel was third in 2:09:52. The much-awaited attack on the course record by Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele failed to materialize with the second-fastest marathoner ever and a four-time Olympic medalist finishing a disappointing sixth in 2:12:52.

Kenyans Shine in Barcelona, Istanbul marathons
Samuel Kosgei won the Barcelona Marathon in Spain this past weekend. Kosgei Run a steady pace to finish first in 2:06:06. The Morrocans fell short of victory but scooped both second and third places, Othmane Goumri in 2:06:03 while Mohamed Ziani finished the race in 2:06:33.
In the womens category the Ethiopians went for all four positions leaving it to no one else. Tadu Teshome finished first in 2:23:53 ahead of Meseret Gola and Meseret Belet who finished second and third respectively.
Kenya’s Nyaboke and Esther chesang finished in fifth and sixth place.
In the Istanbul marathon Sheila Jerotich won the race clocking an impressive 2:24:15 ahead of compatriot Jackline Chepngeno who clocked 2:24:21.The mens race was won by Victor Kiplangat on his debut. Victor crossed the finish line in 2:10:18 followed closely by Kenya’s Robert Kipkemboi who finished in 2:10:23. Solomon Mutai from Uganda finished third in 2:10:25.

Dawit Seyaum Breaks World 5Km Record in Lille
Dawit Seyaum Broke the world 5Km record during the Urban Trail Lille Event in France. Dawit took two seconds off the world record from Beatrice Chepkoech’s record of 14:43 to win the race in 14:41. Kenya’s Noah Jeruto finished second in 14:43 while Meskerem Mamo finished third in 14:45.
