Timothy Cheruiyot Talks Training
Timothy Cheruiyot took part in the Kenya Prisons Cross Country championship - competing in the third leg of the mixed relays. Timothy, who is also Inspector of Prisons, was competing for Team Nairobi. The 1500m world champion says the 2kms he ran was good for his speedwork. Timothy has just recovered from a toe injury and is yet to resume full training.
We caught up with the world champion to talk more about his road to recovery.
Enda: What kind of training are you doing as you ease back to full training?
Cheruiyot: From now I am working on endurance, resistance, and speed because we are almost starting our track and field season. So I have started working on loading and then some long runs and track sessions for speedwork.
Enda: How important is Cross Country as a build up for an athlete?
Cheruiyot: Cross Country is good for an athlete because it combines endurance and speed so an athlete gains experience from cross country.
Enda: 2021 is an Olympic year but there is uncertainty whether it will go or not. Is it discouraging for you?
Cheruiyot: We are hopeful the Olympic Games will go on in Tokyo. So we are working hard as usual and hope to compete in the Olympics come June/July.
