International Women's Day: Keeping The Conversation Alive
Monica Converse -Chief Marketing Officer Enda
What does Women’s Month and International Women’s Day(IWD) March 8 mean to you?
It's important to recognise and celebrate all the Women who came before us and fought for our rights and helped us advance and this day helps us do that. At the same time, there is still a lot to do globally to shift the narrative and keep advancing our rights.
In your opinion, why is it important to talk about and celebrate women’s month?
Although we've made many strides, Women still have expectations at work and at home that are different than Men. We need to keep having important conversations about how we can keep moving towards an equal society. There's still disproportionate violence towards Women Globally in many forms and we need to keep this conversation alive.
In terms of fitness, are there any cultural or generally women-specific issues that form a part of your life in the fitness world?
I've struggled since age 11 with endometriosis, an issue that affects many women. I was dismissed by most doctors and was not diagnosed with the issue until my mid- 20's. It has been incredibly painful and challenging to manage throughout my life. Exercise has been a very important part of managing the issue, and has helped me cope with stress and pain management throughout my life. In recent years, there's been more conversation about the illness, but still no way to test or diagnose without invasive surgery.
Any tips for how our community can continue to support and improve the lives of women?
Keep supporting Women and believing in us. Support female athletes with the same amount of monetary investment as you give male athletes.
What advice do you have for other women reading this blog?
You are enough. You deserve everything that any man has. Ask for help when you need it. We are all in this together.
